Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Work Hours: 36 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus every other holiday
On-Call Requirement: Potential mandatory on-call, approximately 2 shifts per month
Floating: Required to float within scope to ER, Adult ICU Stepdown, pediatric unit, and NICU as needed
Block Schedule: May be accommodated at manager’s discretion

Job Description
- Provide respiratory care in NICU, adult ICU, ER, pediatric unit, and stepdown units; this is not a NICU-only position.
- Responsibilities include airway management, medication administration, arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, BiPAP, CPAP, and nebulizer treatments.
- Night shift duties include aerosol, bronchial hygiene, and lung inflation therapies.
- Experience preferred in adult and neonatal intensive care, emergency department, and level 2 trauma.
- Attendance at monthly department meetings is required; if unable to attend, candidate must review minutes and acknowledge understanding.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician (CRTT)
- Experience working with adult patients
- Experience in emergency department (ED) and adult ICU settings
- Proficiency with BiPAP therapy
Preferred Qualifications
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Prior experience in NICU, ED, and adult ICU preferred but not mandatory
Special Requirements
- Must attend or acknowledge monthly department meetings
- Night shift respiratory therapies expertise required
- Ability to work in a Level II Trauma Center environment
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Virginia driver’s license (if applicable)
- Background checks including lifetime criminal and education verification
- Drug screening within 30 days prior to start
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask (N95) testing and documentation, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with options for boosters or declinations)
- TB testing or questionnaire as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination documentation or declination on file
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, and code of conduct agreements
- Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
- References: Two required within the last 2 years, including one current-year reference from a supervisor or equivalent

- First-time travel therapists are accepted.
- Mandatory attendance or acknowledgment of department meetings.
- Floating to multiple units is required to meet facility needs.
- Facility uses Epic electronic charting system.
- Facility is a short-term acute care hospital with 431 staffed beds and a Level II Trauma Center designation.
