Job Opportunity: Histology Tech

Location

• Glenview, Illinois

Employment Type

• Travel/Contract
• Part-Time, 24 hours per week
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts of 8 hours each (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
• Contract length: 12 weeks

Job Description

• Must have MOHS experience (confirmed prior to submission)
• No on-call or weekend requirements
• Meal break: 30 minutes

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Histology Technologist, with experience within the last year
• Previous experience in molecular laboratories, including in situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
• Experience in immunohistochemistry and tissue processing

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in biological science, or Associate Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
• HT(ASCP) Histotechnician certification or ability to complete once eligible

Licensure & Certifications

• No specific license required for Histology Tech role
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is not required for Histology Tech positions

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties
• Fit mask test (3M Aura 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually (not required for Histology Tech)
• Immunization and health screening documentation including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD not accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility policy
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination series (with accommodation options)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series or positive titer (declinations accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or declination form
• Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant or dilute tests accepted)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Competency exam passing score required (not for non-clinical roles)
• Color blindness test required

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific training modules prior to or shortly after start
• Signing of confidentiality, information security, cannabis acknowledgment, and policy acknowledgment forms
• Completion of sexual harassment training annually with wet or DocuSign signature
• Completion of scanning technology consent release prior to start
• Accommodation request forms for vaccine or fit test exemptions must be submitted within 24-48 hours of contract signing if applicable

State-Specific Requirements (Illinois)

• Fingerprinting to become eligible on the Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry prior to start (must be done in Illinois; out-of-state fingerprints not accepted)
• Registry verification required prior to every contract and extension
