Travel Registered Nurse (Step Down)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on the IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit) - 5th Floor unit
  • Patient ratio typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on acuity
  • Care includes drip management (neo up to 100, precedex, insulin via glucomander), arterial lines, TR bands
  • Stroke and post-procedural patient experience required
  • Use of Epic electronic health record system required
  • Return to office (RTO) within 7 days or less, with only 1 holiday allowed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of stepdown nursing experience, with stepdown experience within the last year
  • Stroke experience
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Training

  • BLS and ACLS certifications must be current and preferably AHA certified
  • NIH Stroke Certification valid for 2 years
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff)
  • Color Blind Testing prior to start
  • Annual skills checklist

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (for travel, allied, per diem acute care roles) within 3 years of start
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, job description acknowledgment, and welcome packet acknowledgment must be completed and signed
