Step Down Unit Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel Registered Nurse assignment in a Step Down Unit.
• 13-week contract.
• Nights, 12-hour shifts.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week; 48-hour contracts may be accepted upon request.

Location

• Henderson, Kentucky.
• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius.

Schedule and Float

• Every third weekend.
• Every other holiday.
• First to float within skillset.
• May float to Deaconess Newburgh (IN) campus and Deaconess Gateway (IN).
• Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible.

Required Qualifications

• Current active compact license.
• AHA BLS.
• AHA ACLS.
• NIHSS.
• 2 years as an RN.
• 1 solid year of stepdown/PCU experience.
• 1 travel assignment.
• Recent EPIC experience.
• Must pass tele tests.
• Ability to initiate and titrate insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips.

Preferred Qualifications

• PIV insertion.
• Stable home vents.
• Chest tube/indwelling drain management.
• CBI.
• Stable drips such as lasix and protonix.
• Blood product administration.
• Continuous BiPap.
• Drain management.
• Neutropenic precautions.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Hard worker, resilient, adaptable, and social.
• May require precepting students and new hires.

Unit Details

• Step Down Unit / SDU: 10 beds.
• Tele: 15 beds.
• Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5 in SDU; 1:5-6 in Tele.
  • Nights: 1:5-6 in SDU; 1:6 in Tele.
• CN rarely takes patients on days but may take an assignment on nights.

Additional Notes

• Clinical interview required.
• Teaching hospital.
• Navy blue scrubs.
• COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change.
