Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day/night variable shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday

Unit Information

• 36-bed Medical-Surgical Intermediate Care unit with heavy telemetry
• Patient conditions include stable and weaning ventilators/tracheostomies, sepsis, trauma alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy care, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke
• Typical patient-to-nurse ratio: 4:1 (including patients on insulin drips)
• Float requirements to all inpatient units as needed, typically to higher acuity units
• No on-call or call-back requirements; low census hours may be assigned in increments (4 or 8 hours) but are not considered on-call

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Stepdown/Intermediate Care/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) required
• Ventilator and tracheostomy care experience required
• ICU experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel nursing contract required
• EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
• Must be able to work independently, manage change well, and complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Flu and COVID vaccination policy: During flu season, travelers who decline vaccination must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply after orientation except during unit closures for holidays
