Pediatric Step Down RN - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)
Job Summary
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process using theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking in management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model and allocate resources effectively.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care through admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and collaboration with MD/RN.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
- Support staff use of evidence-based practices to improve patient care.
- Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing key patient needs (the 4 Ps).
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care; identify and escalate barriers and improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge essential to quality and safety for pediatric step down patients.
- Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional and evidence-based standards.
- Participate in peer and institutional review processes.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Contribute to compliance with quality and safety measures.
- Apply high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors and ensure patient safety.
- Escalate safety hazards or practice gaps following institutional protocols.
- Utilize electronic documentation systems to support quality and performance improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current New York State RN license.
- Relevant pediatric nursing experience required.
- New graduates must have current knowledge of nursing process and application.
- PALS, BLS, and ACLS certifications required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
- Physical ability to care for acutely ill patients including walking, standing, lifting, stooping, pushing, and quick response.
- Manual dexterity for clinical procedures such as venipuncture, urinary catheterization, and CPR.
- Ability to use electronic medical records and data entry systems proficiently.
- Physical and mental health to manage a broad variety of pediatric diagnoses and behaviors daily.
