Job Description

  • Deliver therapeutic radiation according to Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and instructions.
  • Verify prescription accuracy to eliminate errors.
  • Take and interpret port-images; ensure review and approval by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Prepare treatment room and equipment, including immobilization devices, field parameters, and beam shaping.
  • Explain procedures and set up patients for treatment.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to Radiation Oncologist or radiation therapy nurse.
  • Record treatments administered in patient charts and record/verify system.
  • Perform chart checks and report discrepancies.
  • Conduct daily QA and safety checks as required by regulations.
  • Maintain equipment in safe, working condition; report defects for repair.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area; stock and replenish supplies.
  • Perform dose calculations using computer software.
  • Verify and localize treatment area using radiographic film or electronic medium.
  • Interpret beam films and ensure approval by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Understand equipment functions, including wedges and compensating filters.
  • Detect treatment unit malfunctions and report when safe limits are reached.
  • Communicate treatment procedures to patients, answer questions, and provide reassurance.
  • Maintain visual and audible communication with patients during treatment.
  • Report any unusual or adverse patient reactions to appropriate staff.
  • Instruct student radiation therapists and assist in their evaluation.
  • Assist Senior Therapist with chart checks and scheduling.
  • Participate in chart rounds, film displays, and patient treatment discussions.
  • Attend in-service and ad hoc training sessions.
  • Create immobilization devices and adjust shielding blocks as needed.
  • Keep patients informed of delays and progress.
  • Maintain professional behavior at all times.

Contract Length

  • Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical therapeutic radiation therapy experience.
  • Experience with Varian TrueBeam technology and Mosaiq EMR preferred.
