Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including executing provider orders, administering medications, assisting in patient examinations and treatments, and applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of patients. Responsibilities include attending sick calls, operating medication distribution, assessing new and ill patients, performing emergency procedures, and coordinating professional medical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
- Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
- Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
- Use sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies.
- Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records.
- Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services.
- Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
- Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances.
- Observe and record patient behavior.
- Inspect medical units for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.
- Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups.
- Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports.
- Interpret medical, technical, regulatory, and legal documents.
- Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary.
- Facilitate accreditation processes by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take action in serious incidents and emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a degree or diploma in nursing.
- Must possess current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in California.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience preferred.
