Registered Nurse - Wound Care

Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical - Nursing - DPC
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Wound and Ostomy Manager, provide safe, competent, quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health assessments focused on wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Perform focused physical assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Assist with development, revision, and evaluation of standards of care.
  • Assess and document patient responses to wound care, ostomy, continence, fistula, and complex wound treatments.
  • Evaluate quality and delivery of care provided by clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team and make referrals as needed.
  • Teach, counsel, and assist patients and families in preventing complications related to ostomies, wounds, or continence issues.
  • Provide comprehensive assessments for patients at risk of pressure injuries and initiate preventative measures.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities including incidence and prevalence studies.
  • Provide culturally competent education to patients, families, and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient data.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience.
  • At least 1 year of wound care experience within the last year.
  • Certification in wound care such as one of the following:
    • Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON)
    • Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN)
    • Certified Wound Specialist (CWS)
    • Wound Care Certified (WCC)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

  • None specified.

Skills

  • Ability to fully utilize electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare/billing systems.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
