Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU provides direct patient care under supervision, implementing the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The RN collaborates with the Patient Care Coordinator and is responsible for delivering quality care to critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient assessment and growth/development principles.
- Maintain thorough, timely documentation and communicate patient information effectively to the healthcare team.
- Assist in coordinating services with medical, nursing, and other departments.
- Respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Maintain current clinical skills, competencies, and certifications relevant to ICU nursing.
- Perform technical nursing skills including medication administration, IV starts, Foley catheter insertion and maintenance, venipuncture, blood product administration, restraint application, sterile dressing changes, and care of various lines (intracranial, central, arterial, peripheral).
- Care for ventilated patients and manage tracheostomies.
- Troubleshoot and operate specialized equipment such as wound vacuum systems, monitoring devices, and dialysis equipment.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans and educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and medications.
- Use critical thinking and professional judgment to intervene promptly with clinical changes and prevent complications in patients requiring cardiac monitoring, stroke care, medical-surgical, and trauma care.
- Adhere to organizational values including customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
- Follow all patient care policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Moderate Sedation certification
