NICU RN - Nights

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 18:45 - 07:15 (12-hour night shift)


Job Description

  • Work primarily in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) caring for patients 23 months and younger.
  • May float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Intermediate Care Unit (UCU), and Medical/Surgical units as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Credentials and Compliance

  • Professional resume/profile required for submission.
  • Nursing license verification through Nursys within 30 days of start.
  • Primary source verification of professional license and/or certification updated upon expiration.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start, updated annually.
  • Competency exams with passing score of 80% or higher within one year prior to start, updated annually.
  • Core competencies completed within one year prior to start with passing score of 80% or higher, updated annually. Includes HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Safety Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Elder Abuse and Neglect, Age Specific Care, Cultural Diversity, Advance Directives.
  • Criminal background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including SSN address trace, county and national criminal searches, education and employment verification (last 5 years), and driving record.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
  • Badge photo: forward-facing, well-lit, neutral background, JPEG format.
  • Annual education packet completion as required.
  • Eye exam and color vision test (Ishihara Color Test and Snellen Vision test) within one year prior to start.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Proof of 2 immunizations, positive titer, or declination with signed statement.
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of 3 immunizations, positive titer, or declination with required signatures.
  • Varicella: Proof of 2 immunizations, positive titer, or declination with signed statement.
  • Tdap: Proof of vaccination within past 10 years or declination with required signatures.
  • TB Test: Negative QuantiFERON blood test within one year prior or 2-step skin test (one within 30 days, one within 1 year). If positive, must provide MD note or proof of treatment.
  • Annual TB Questionnaire within 6 months of start; if positive, documentation of evaluation and treatment completion required.
  • Fit Test: N95 mask fit test (3M 1860, 1860s, or 1870+) completed within one year prior to start, updated annually.
  • Health Statement: Signed and dated within one year prior to start confirming ability to work without restrictions.
  • Influenza vaccine is optional; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation and approvals.
  • COVID-19 vaccine is optional; proof of vaccine or exemption accepted.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
  • The assignment involves floating to other units, so flexibility is important.
  • Patient age limit: 23 months and younger.
