Registered Respiratory Therapist

Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM

Job Requirements

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Texas
• Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with Neonate or Pediatric patients
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• PALS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Required Onboarding and Compliance

• Signed Assignment Agreement
• Respiratory Therapy Contract Worker Onboarding Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training with attestation)
• Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
• Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
• Fit Test (preferred before start; must be updated annually)
• Health Statement or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
• Immunizations and Health Requirements:

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Optional; if declined during flu season, mask required
  • TB Screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required
• Drug Screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
• Background Checks and Verifications:

  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry (updated annually or after >90 days break)
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start
  • Employment verification for past 7 years
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
• Professional References: At least two professional references prior to first assignment
• Driver’s License/State ID: Must be current, match address on file, and show front/back

Additional Notes

• Specialty clinical skills checklist to be completed within one year of start and updated annually
• Some onboarding forms and attestations are completed onsite or uploaded by the agency/facility
• Flu season runs October 1 through March 31; mask required if flu vaccine is declined during this period

This position requires a dedicated respiratory therapist with pediatric or neonatal ICU experience, appropriate licensure, and multiple certifications. Compliance with extensive onboarding, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
