Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVPICU - Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
- Shift: Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM & 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, including holiday rotation
- On Call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Minimum 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience required
- Experience in Cardiovascular and Pediatric care required
- Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience highly preferred
- First-time travelers accepted
- Must hold a South Carolina RN license or a Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications required:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Certification preferred:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only

- Staffing: Includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 820

Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Locals accepted (with adjusted pay rate)
- Guaranteed hours: May be cancelled one shift every 2 weeks
- Block scheduling accommodations available at manager’s discretion
- Travel pairs not accepted
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and form)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on compact license)
- Background check including 7 years of history and multiple screenings
- Employment application with detailed work history and no unaccounted gaps
- Proof of 2 clinical references
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- NURSYS license verification (active, unencumbered)
- Drug screening (10-panel within 90 days)
- Annual TB test or chest X-ray (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days)
- Annual fit test for N95 mask (specific mask models required)
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Vaccinations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for this role)
Additional Notes
- MUSC only accepts American Heart Association (AHA) certifications for BLS, PALS, and ACLS
- Certifications expiring within 30 days of start are not accepted; renewal or scheduled course required prior to start
- Travelers must upload vaccination and certification documents into MUSC’s platform (OurDay) as instructed
- Failure to complete required modules or submit documentation on time may result in being sent home or placed on leave without pay
- The unit is a high-acuity, specialized pediatric cardiac ICU with advanced therapies and excellent outcomes
