Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Perform radiographic procedures requiring strong knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology.
  • Apply ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in adult and/or pediatric radiology.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, showing initiative and technical competency.
  • Coverage includes OR, Orthopedics, Fluoroscopy, Inpatient, Outpatient, and ER.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8s) with on-call rotation including weekends.
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required.

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Radiology/Cardiology specialty.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • First-time travelers accepted.
  • Required Certifications:
    • ARRT (R)
    • SCRQSA (R)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • CPR
  • Radiation badge is required and must be provided by the agency (facility does not provide).
  • Fluoroscopy and OR experience required.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Level III Trauma, Acute Care Hospital with 286 staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Parking: Free.
  • Scrub color: Teal top and black bottom.
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams.

Scheduling & Hours

  • Guaranteed hours with allowance for facility to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
  • On-call rotation includes weekends.

Licensure & Verification

  • South Carolina state license required (primary source verification).
  • Licensure must be active, unencumbered, and no pending actions.
  • NURSYS verification required for applicable licenses.
  • All licensure and certification documents must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date.

Required Background & Compliance Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • Required searches include SSN trace, statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed.
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Fit mask testing done onsite during orientation; facial hair must be shaved or trimmed.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines with boosters if low/negative titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccines with boosters if low/negative titer)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or chest x-ray if prior positive. Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30). Flu declinations are not accepted.
  • COVID vaccination is highly preferred but not required; declination form must be completed if not vaccinated.

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (pediatric OR candidates may use regular pharmacology exam if no pediatric experience).

  • Color blindness testing required prior to start.

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules and First Day Instructions (FDI) required prior to start.
  • Modules take approximately 4-6 hours to complete for this location.
  • Passport-style badge photo required before start.
  • Travelers must upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into the facility’s system.
  • Facility-specific job description must be signed prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badges may take 5-7 days to process; candidates cannot start floor duties without the badge.
  • Facility may accommodate local candidates on a case-by-case basis.
  • Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season.

This position is ideal for X-Ray Techs with at least 1 year of experience, required certifications, and flexibility to work on-call shifts including weekends. Fluoroscopy and OR experience are essential.
