Job Description

• Must have CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) and CFA (Certified First Assistant) certifications with CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience.
• Formal education required; on-the-job training for CST certification is NOT accepted.
• Traveler must provide a technical diploma from their CST training for compliance (high school diploma, CST certification alone, or unrelated college diploma are NOT accepted).
• Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
• Call every other weekend and 2 days a week; every third weekend rotation in CVOR.
• Required skills and knowledge:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NBSTSA certification
  • Scrub skills
  • Specialized and proficient in cardiac cases (CVOR)
  • Aseptic technique
  • Universal protocol (timeout)
  • Radiation/laser/fire safety
  • Specimen labeling/handling
  • Sterilization/disinfection
• Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience required.

Certifications & Licenses Required

• CST and CFA certifications (with technical diploma verification)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
• State License verification (name must match; CSFA working under RN supervision must have both CSFA and CST certifications)

Education & Verification

Background Checks & Compliance

• 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required by facility but required by agency standards).
• Fit mask test annually (specific mask types accepted). Religious exemption accepted with documentation.
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination acceptable for non-clinical).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations NOT accepted.
• Hepatitis B - Surface antibody titer, series, or declination required.
• Varicella - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations NOT accepted.
• Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
• COVID-19 vaccination or medical/religious exemption required.
