Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Certifications required:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Use of Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly checks for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing; results valid for 12 months and must be updated annually.
  • Fingerprints must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
  • Candidates can start with fingerprint results pending but must complete fingerprinting before starting.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprint attestation must be completed and valid within 12 months.

Certifications & Testing

  • BLS and ACLS: AHA only (Instructor or Provider); RQI acceptable. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs (except OR). Testing completed onsite during orientation.
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing after 4/11/2025). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during assignment.
  • Completion of onboarding modules (online training) prior to start is mandatory.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • Modules include SafeMedicate prep materials and other facility-specific training.
  • Candidates must complete all modules before clearance to start.
  • References: 2 professional references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures.
  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and other health documents.
  • Candidates must renew certifications and licenses if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Fingerprinting and background checks are critical and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
  • Pass/fail testing and competency exams are required onsite during orientation.
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require agency and facility approval.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, seeking a night shift travel assignment with a reputable healthcare system.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cons

Cleveland Clinic, the main campus, cuts the staff when adding more work. This is very disorganized and harmful to the rest of the staff.
