Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Floating: Yes, may float between units based on needs and skill set (including multiple facilities in the region)
  • On-Call: Required on weekdays and weekends
  • Weekends: Not required
  • Block Schedules: Not required
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1
  • 48-Hour Shifts: Not approved
  • Vehicle: Must have a vehicle for assignment
  • Floating Incentives: Additional pay and hotel accommodations offered for floating to certain locations (e.g., Seaside)

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • ACLS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
  • BLS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
  • PALS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
  • State professional nursing license (RN)
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • IV Certification (if applicable)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (if applicable)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification required for all candidates (nursing degree verification for RNs)
  • State-specific searches (e.g., Oregon Abuse/Neglect, Washington State Patrol) as applicable
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination
  • Respirator safety clearance (RespSafety) required for travel candidates, updated annually
  • Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Competency exams required by specialty
  • Color Blind Testing (if required by unit)
  • Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment or EFM certification for Labor & Delivery RNs

Training & Orientation

  • Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
    • Core modules for Oregon facilities
    • Specialty-specific modules based on role and unit
    • Annual regulatory requirements
  • Epic training modules required; must be completed within a week of orientation
  • Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)

References & Employment History

  • Minimum of 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
  • Skills checklist updated annually (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • Travelers may be required to complete additional facility-specific or state-specific documentation and training
  • No 48-hour shifts approved for this assignment
