Registered Nurse (Stepdown) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1900-0700)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Stepdown RN needed, with possible float to units of similar or lower acuity as needed.
• Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a reduced rate.

Experience & Education Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (highest requirement found).
• BSN preferred.

Licensure & Certifications Required

• RN State License and/or Compact State Licensure (pending license acceptable but must be in hand prior to start).
• BCLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable).
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable).
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for Emergency Department RNs prior to start; ICU RNs only if assignment exceeds 1 year.
• NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) - Required annually for Acute Hospital RNs in specified units including Stepdown.
• State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS Verification required.
• Basic Dysrhythmia exam (Pass/Fail Testing) - Required for all RNs; must score 84% or higher with only 2 attempts allowed (1 attempt for ICU).
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required if extending past initial contract or for specific units such as Emergency Department and Mental Health.
• IV Certification required for LPNs (if applicable).

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required.

Facility & Charting

• Facility has 352 certified beds.
• Level II Trauma and Stroke Center.
• Charting system: EPIC.
• Free parking available.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within last 12 months (not required annually).
• Fit mask testing completed onsite.
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually; additional requirements if positive TB.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity/declination required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (not required annually).
• Seasonal flu vaccination required or agency-approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (declinations not accepted).

Background & Documentation

• Background check within 30 days of start including national criminal, state, county searches, SSN trace, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
• Education verification with official transcript or diploma.
• Missouri EDL Search required within 30 days of start.
• References: 2 professional references within 3 years.
• Employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required.
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, orientation quiz, and arrhythmia study guide must be reviewed and signed/completed.

• Float to other units may be required.
• Pending license acceptable but must be obtained before start date.
• Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at reduced rate.
