Registered Nurse (PICU) - New Haven, Connecticut

Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)

Job Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of PICU experience
• Licensure: Active nursing license required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred
• Additional Experience:

  • Teaching hospital experience
  • Trauma Level I experience

Orientation

  • Monday: In-person orientation

Additional Information

• Scrubs color: Royal Blue
• 1-year separation period required for previous permanent employees
• Flu vaccination declinations accepted; COVID-19 vaccination not required
• Must commit to at least 4 shifts per month
• Must prioritize compliance process and meet all deadlines before start date
• Shifts access granted only after successful clearance post-orientation

Background and Health Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check including sex offender registry
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
• Respiratory fit mask test (fit test) required
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the past year (if positive PPD, documentation required)
• Immunity or vaccination proof required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (proof of series or declination)
  • Varicella (immunity by history, titer, or vaccination)
• 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required (October 1 - March 31)
• COVID-19 vaccine requirements vary by state; medical exemptions may be accepted but religious exemptions are not

Competency Exams Required

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
• Color blindness testing
• General competency exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for Telemetry and Cath Lab)

Prior Travel Experience
