Job Summary: Laboratory Specialist (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 4 years total laboratory experience
• 2 years dedicated Microbiology Lab experience (hard requirement)
• Experience with bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteria, and virology

Schedule

• Every other weekend required
• Schedule accommodations must be approved before offer

Licensure & Certifications

• No state license required
• Locals and first-time travelers accepted
• NBSTA certification preferred (not required)

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I9 form
• Government-issued photo ID and driver's license (driver’s license must be provided within 48 hours of signing)
• E-Verify clearance
• Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List check within 30 days of start and for extensions

Certifications (as applicable)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role
• BLS (Basic Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role
• Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, CHEMO, NIH Stroke Certification, and Management of Assaultive Behavior are not required for this Laboratory specialty role

Health & Safety Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
• Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen)
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start (on-site fit testing mandatory)
• Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
• Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
• Other immunizations/titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs & LPNs (not specifically for this lab role but may be applicable if cross-trained)
• Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication as applicable (likely not required for lab specialty)
• Color Blind Testing within 1 year if applicable

History & Verification

• 7 years of work history required on employment application or resume
• 2 references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
• Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start date verified)

Facility Specific Requirements

• Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment
• Annual education sign-off and review of facility-specific education materials prior to start
• Vendor medical clearance form required if history of positive TB
• Various CEU requirements for other specialties, not specifically required for this lab role
