Patient Population & Care Modalities

• Acute inpatient progressive care

• Diagnoses include:

  • Acute Coronary Syndrome
  • Bipap/CPAP with compromised gas exchange
  • Cardiac diagnoses requiring close monitoring
  • Post PTCA/stent care
  • Drug toxicity requiring advanced monitoring
  • ETOH withdrawal with airway compromise risk
  • Thrombolytic therapy for ACS or vascular patency
  • Major vascular surgery with comorbidities
  • Hypotension/hemodynamic instability
  • Insulin drip therapy
  • Heart Failure
  • Carotid surgery
  • Electrical cardioversion
  • Active rewarming for temperature regulation

• Special Equipment: Respiratory support available 24/7; anesthesia not available 24/7; only home ventilators managed on unit

• Unit Specific Procedures: Insulin drips, cardiac drips, starting IVs, post cardiac cath care

Required Qualifications

• Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Specialty: Progressive Care/Intermediate Care
• Minimum Years of Clinical Experience: 1 year
• Minimum Years of Specialty Experience: 1 year (telemetry experience required)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Licensure: Valid New York RN license or proof of application with applied date required at submission
• Certifications:

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required prior to start
• Epic experience within the past 2 years is mandatory and non-negotiable

Additional Requirements & Information

• Reliable transportation required (public transportation not accessible)
• Vehicle should have all-season or snow tires November through April

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years

• Certifications verification (BLS, ACLS, NIHSS)
• State License primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days and updated annually
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required
• Color Blind Testing required
• Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required annually for NY facilities)
• N95 Fit Mask test required prior to start and annually
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap within 10 years or titer
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination (required for NY facilities)
• Drug testing within 12 months of start (required for NY facilities)
• References: 2 professional references from assignments within last 3 years

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of telemetry experience, current NY RN licensure, and recent EPIC experience, who is comfortable working in a progressive care setting with floating responsibilities and flexible scheduling.
