Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in an Ambulatory Surgery Center setting. The role involves providing nursing care during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases, assisting physicians during surgeries and procedures, and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care.


Required Qualifications

  • Licensure & Certification:
    • Registered Nurse license in California
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of recent relevant nursing experience
    • Ambulatory Surgery Center experience required
  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Planning of Patient Care

  • Conduct comprehensive patient and family assessments (physiological, spiritual, emotional)
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team to develop and adjust patient care plans
  • Communicate patient care plans effectively across shifts and team members

Provision of Patient Care

  • Deliver competent, compassionate, and cost-effective nursing care following evidence-based practices
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
  • Delegate tasks appropriately based on scope of practice and capability
  • Lead surgical team in time-out process and maintain sterile technique throughout procedures
  • Educate patients and families, ensuring understanding through teach-back methods
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with all relevant laws and policies
  • Participate in continuous professional development and quality improvement activities

Evaluation of Patient Care

  • Monitor and evaluate patient responses to treatments and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Document all patient care activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Report safety events and participate in safety event analysis
  • Enforce infection control and sterile processing standards

Professional Support

  • Promote a positive team environment and provide orientation/training to new staff
  • Assist with supply management, patient transport, room turnover, and sterile processing

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of nursing theories, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Familiarity with healthcare industry standards, safety policies, and patient privacy regulations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and collaboratively, and manage interruptions
  • Problem-solving skills within established guidelines
  • Commitment to maintaining patient privacy and building collaborative relationships

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, and education verification
  • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS Level 3 screenings
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law) within 6 months of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-Apr) or signed declination
  • Completion of facility-specific regulatory and compliance documents prior to start
  • Employment history verification for the past 7 years with no gaps over 30 days
