Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Stepdown/Cardiac unit
- Schedule: Nights
- Weekend Shifts: 6 total (Saturdays and Sundays)
- Additional Shifts: 4 Mondays and 4 Fridays
- Floating: PCU/Stepdown/IMCU units
- On-Call: Yes
- Blocked Scheduling: Not available
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Stepdown experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Telemetry, PCU (Progressive Care Unit), Intermediate Care, and Stepdown units
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and others as required
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start
- Health documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio vaccine or attestation
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Flu vaccination for the 2025-26 season (declinations not accepted)
- Employment application and 7 years of work history
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Facility-specific competencies and exams as required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Candidates within 75 miles of the location may be considered local
- Candidates must be able to complete required online modules prior to orientation
- Color blind testing and unit-specific competency exams may be required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation for applicable units
This position is suitable for RNs with cardiac telemetry or stepdown experience seeking a travel contract opportunity with night shifts and weekend coverage in North Carolina.
