Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist - Outpatient
Location: Valdez, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary
Seeking an Occupational Therapist with at least 1 year of experience. This is a travel contract position with a 4x10 day shift schedule. The role primarily serves a largely outpatient pediatric population but also includes hospital inpatient, swing bed, long-term care (LTC), and outpatient settings.
Work Environment & Unit Information
- Patient population: Mostly outpatient pediatrics, with some inpatient and LTC.
- Department serves hospital (inpatient and swing bed), LTC, and outpatient.
- Ability to transition between inpatient, outpatient, and LTC settings is required.
- Prior pediatric and inpatient experience preferred.
- No on-call required.
- Floating outside scope is not required.
- Block scheduling accommodation available.
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 50 miles away).
- First-time travelers not accepted.
- Pending licenses accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Occupational Therapy experience.
- BLS certification required.
- Skills required: Experience in outpatient, acute care, LTC/SNF; pediatrics preferred.
- Must have valid Occupational Therapy license (pending license accepted).
- Must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance to use company vehicle.
- Must be able to meet national patient safety goals/core measures.
- Experience with billing, feeding techniques (oral/motor), and disability sequence testing preferred.
- Required skills include managing acute and chronic disorders, functional activities, standardized assessments, developmental testing/treatment, and care for patients with intellectual disabilities.
Schedule & Hours
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day.
- Guaranteed 70 hours per 2 weeks.
- May be called off for one 10-hour shift per 2 weeks.
Housing & Transportation
- Housing provided: Typically 1-bedroom apartments, available 72 hours before contract start and up to 24 hours after contract end.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Housing typically accommodates only the traveler; additional family members require approval.
- Housing must be cleaned upon departure or cleaning fees apply.
- Rental vehicle provided for use during assignment within a 30-mile radius of the facility.
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle.
- Vehicle available 72 hours before contract start and up to 24 hours after contract end.
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas.
- Tire chains available at additional cost.
- Vehicle must be returned during any time off.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and health screenings required: TB test, Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (seasonal), COVID vaccine or declination.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Respirator clearance required for travel candidates.
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Education verification and employment references required.
- Skills checklists and competency exams as applicable.
- Completion of required regulatory and specialty-specific training modules annually.
- Compliance with state-specific requirements as applicable.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have at least 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Candidates who have worked as permanent staff at any related facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before working as a traveler.
- Locals are not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility.
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position.
