Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Cardiac
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks (approximate)
Start Date: Targeted 4/20/2026
End Date: 6/30/2026
Shift: Days
- Includes 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday), 4 Mondays, and 4 Fridays
- On-call required
- Floating between PCU, Stepdown, and IMCU units
Job Description
Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Stepdown/Cardiac care. The role involves working in a cardiac telemetry/stepdown environment with responsibilities including patient care and charting in EPIC.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or similar stepdown units
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Schedule Details
- Day shift with a mix of weekdays and weekends as noted
- No blocked scheduling available
- Floating required across PCU, Stepdown, and IMCU units
Orientation & Other Details
- Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered with adjusted pay (note: pay details excluded)
- Local candidates are welcome
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks, sex offender, education verification, and others must be completed within 90 days of start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination or immunity proof
- Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or immunity proof
- Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- References: 2 professional references from employment within last 12 months, at least one supervisor
- Employment application and skills checklist required and must be current
Additional Requirements
- Must set up a guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge (except RRTs) during orientation
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided onsite if applicable
This position is suitable for both travel nurses new to contracts and local nurses seeking temporary assignments in cardiac stepdown care.
