Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse for a Level 1 Trauma Center with additional Stroke and Heart Center designations. The unit includes a Pediatric Emergency Department and currently experiences high patient-to-nurse ratios (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
Schedule & Work Details
- Weekend shifts required: 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days.
- Floating to Pediatrics possible.
- No on-call required.
- Start date: ASAP.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with recent ED experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system
Additional Unit Information
- High acuity trauma and stroke care environment.
- Patient ratios may be high; nurses should be prepared for challenging workloads.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID.
- Social Security Card.
- E-Verify compliance.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year county and state criminal history
- Social Security Number trace
- National Sex Offender Database search
- FACIS Level 3 search
- Education verification
- Michigan Workforce Fingerprinting (if applicable).
- Physical exam within 12 months noting latex sensitivity.
- OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed at least 1 week prior to start; fit testing onsite.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination or declination
- 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
- References: Minimum 2 from previous employers.
- Current resume with 7-year work history.
- Skills checklist and competency exams as required by unit.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (some completed onsite).
Notes
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are accepted.
- High patient-to-nurse ratios expected; flexibility and resilience needed.
- Modules completed prior to start are not billable hours; plan accordingly.
This position is ideal for ER nurses with trauma experience looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
