Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular Unit – Telemetry (54-bed cardiac telemetry unit)
- Patient Population: Heart failure, heart attack (STEMI/NSTEMI), stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
- Monitoring: Patients are on cardiac monitors with remote telemetry and close unit monitoring; cardiac drips administered
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Call Requirements: None
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5-6; can increase to 1:7 during call-ins
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Valid RN license for Michigan
- Travelers must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)
- First-time travelers accepted
Additional Requirements & Information
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Q-gold accepted; T-spot not accepted)
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (boosters if low titer)
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, opiates, fentanyl, cocaine, benzodiazepines, etc.)
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start; documentation must be on file by December 15
- COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical or religious documentation
- Facility-specific documents and modules must be completed prior to start (modules take approximately 8-10 hours)
- Employment application required

- This is a cardiac telemetry unit with a focus on acute cardiac patients requiring continuous monitoring.
- Night shift with every other weekend and holiday work required.
- No call responsibilities.
- The unit is actively onboarding new travelers to help manage workload during call-ins.
- Candidates should be comfortable with variable nurse-to-patient ratios.
