Job Opportunity: Wound Care Registered Nurse
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM), Monday through Friday
- Schedule: No nights, holidays, or on-call required
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, every 6-week weekend rotation
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from facility
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full shift length)
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Wound Care
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Special Skills:
- Hospital experience with wound care and ostomy management
- Colostomy, ileostomy, double barrel stoma, loop with rod stoma, mucous fistula care
- Continence skin care management
- Wound assessment, measurement, staging, and treatment
- Management of burns (1st to 4th degree), pressure ulcers (Stages I-IV), venous ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, peripheral arterial ulcers
- Use of wound care products: alginates, autolytic, enzymatic debriding agents, foams, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, silver products
- Vacuum Assisted Closure (Wound Vac Therapy) including ordering, application, and removal
- Infection control and isolation precautions
- Patient and family education related to wound and ostomy care
- Pain management and use of Braden scale and other risk assessment tools
- Collaboration with other departments and staff education
- Ability to walk entire campus during the day
- Additional Requirements: Orthopedic knowledge related to wound care
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, TNCC) – verify with recruiter/unit
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting required for certain assignments (especially in Illinois long-term care or rehab units)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be current throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Required facility-specific documents and acknowledgements (e.g., HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists as applicable
Additional Notes
- No on-call responsibilities
- Must be able to meet weekend rotation requirements
- Must be willing to float within scope
- Must comply with all facility policies and complete required orientation and training modules
- References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of wound care experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in wound care and ostomy management including:
- Double barrel stoma, end stoma, loop with rod stoma, mucous fistula, and J Pouch care
- Ostomy equipment selection and fecal incontinence program management
- Use of enzymatic debriding agents and silver products in wound care
- Vacuum Assisted Closure (Wound Vac Therapy) including ordering, application, and removal
