Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 1.5 years ICU experience required
    • Preferably 1.5 years MICU experience
    • If less than 2 years ICU experience, Level I experience is required
    • Must have experience in a 20+ bed ICU
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within ICU service line areas
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Relias EKG Exam: Must pass; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

  • Experience with:
    • Pressor support
    • Endotracheal tubes (ETT)
    • Tracheostomies
    • Feeding tubes
    • Chest tubes
    • Wound care
  • Sterile technique experience including:
    • Line insertion
    • Paracentesis
    • Bedside trach placement
    • Bronchoscopy
    • Phlebotomy
  • Preferred experience:
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Swan-Ganz catheter
    • Inhaled and IV Flolan
    • Continuous Venovenous Hemodialysis (CVVHD)
    • Proning
    • Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) - Level 1 Rapid Transfuser

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent) - must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually

License Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri
  • Pending licenses accepted
  • Primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
    • Statewide searches
    • Highway patrol check (Missouri)
    • Nationwide and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not applicable here)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) via online platform before start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
  • Must adhere to facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail policy, and confidentiality agreements

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
