Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Athens, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Typical Patient Diagnoses: COPD, Asthma exacerbation, Pulmonary Embolism, Pulmonary fibrosis, Pleural effusion, Pneumonia, Lung Cancer, RSV, Flu, COVID-19, Mycoplasma
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
  • Unit Size: 14 rooms, average daily census of 12
  • Electronic Systems: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
  • Uniform Color: Navy Blue

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Call: None
  • Holiday Work:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)

Orientation & Compliance

  • Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling
  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance

Additional Notes

  • First-time travel nurses are accepted
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Floating within the facility as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Must be prepared to work assigned holidays as outlined

This position offers an opportunity to work in a busy medical-surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of pulmonary and infectious diagnoses, using established electronic health record systems, with a supportive team environment and clear expectations for compliance and professional standards.
