Registered Nurse – Transplant Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (36 beds) providing medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care to adult pre- and post-transplant patients (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal) and intestinal rehabilitation patients.
• Adolescent patients (age 15+) are on the unit but cared for by core staff only.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights.
• Drip medication administration required on all floors.
• Float requirement: Travelers must float frequently within scope to meet staffing needs, including to multiple other units and potentially a different campus.

Schedule

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat nights)
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of transplant nursing experience, with transplant experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Valid Driver’s License

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA required
• NIH Stroke Certification preferred
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
• Annual Skills Checklist required

Health & Safety Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks
• Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
  • Hepatitis B titer (declination accepted if non-reactive)
  • Varicella vaccine or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
• Annual PPD or equivalent TB testing, chest x-ray if history of positive PPD, and TB questionnaire if applicable
• Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required
• COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions or declinations accepted

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Must submit 2 professional references from work within the past 2 years
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
• Nebraska DHHS Adult and Child Services Registry Search required within 30 days of start
• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
• Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
• Locals not accepted; candidate must reside more than 100 miles from facility
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Up to two weeks permitted, must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
