Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Rotation: Must work one summer and one winter holiday; if multiple holidays fall during assignment, expect to work proportionally (e.g., if two holidays, work one)
• Float Requirement: Position requires floating to cover staffing needs as necessary
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Unit Description: 32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practices

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
• Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Orientation & Onboarding

• First Day: Nurse will take drug screen at Employee Health and then leave; first shift begins the following day
• Self-Scheduling: Staff assigned to groups that rotate weekly for scheduling

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks: 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties and states lived/worked in last 7 years, nationwide sex offender check, and state police background check
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start; includes marijuana (zero tolerance even with medical marijuana card)
• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Immunizations & Health:

  • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or chest X-ray if positive TB)
  • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); medical and religious exemptions allowed with facility-specific forms submitted two weeks prior to start
• Fit Mask Testing: Annual fit test required; onsite testing available; clean-shaven required for PAPR unless approved exemption
• References: 2 professional references required
• Employment Application/Resume: Current application or resume required
• Skills Checklist: Required for specialty, updated annually

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete multiple facility-specific forms and acknowledge policies prior to start
• Drug screen failure on-site will result in cancellation of assignment
• Floating to other units may be required to meet staffing needs
