Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location
- Charleston, South Carolina

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Pediatrics focus)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities

- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Qualifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist - NICU with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Infant, Neonate, or Pediatric patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- National Technical Certification verification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure
- South Carolina RRT license must be active and in hand at time of start
- Pending state license accepted only if SC RRT license is obtained before start
Experience
- Pediatric respiratory care experience required
- First-time travel therapists accepted (no prior travel experience required)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
- Annual background check covering last 7 years including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and national checks
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
- Color blind testing prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Competency exam required
- Clear, passport-style badge photo (frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses) submitted by Wednesday prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
- Radiation badge required only if assigned to units requiring it (not typical for RRTs in this role)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (vaccines or titers with boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination form
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form

- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval but is not guaranteed
- Radius rule: 60 miles; local hires considered case-by-case
- Facility may call off one shift every two weeks
- Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)
