Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
- Day shift: 06:30 - 17:00
- Evening shift: 13:00 - 23:30
- Occasional weekends required
- On-call requirement: Approximately 4 hours every 6 weeks; must be able to arrive within 1 hour when called
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric PACU (Post Anesthetic Care), with experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience with central line management
- Experience caring for tracheostomized patients
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IV starts, ventilators, and pediatric patients
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
Unit Information
- Best candidates have varied PACU experience across multiple practice settings, preferably academic
- Exposure to a wide variety of acutely ill pediatric patients
Compliance and Testing Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (accepted if given after age 11)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - titers or vaccines required with boosters if needed
- Varicella - titer or 2 vaccines, boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B - positive titer, completed vaccine series, or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct-Mar)
- TB screening:
- Qgold/Tspot within 12 weeks of start OR
- Two PPDs (one within 1 year, second within 12 weeks of start)
- Chest X-ray if past positive TB test
- Respirator medical clearance and fit testing required (N95 or CAPR/PAPR)
- Annual background checks including WA State Patrol (WSP/WATCH) search
- Competency exams including pediatric pharmacology and PACU-specific exams required (minimum 80% score)
- EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam required prior to start
- Skills checklists including pediatric skills required
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge must be submitted within 72 hours of contract signing; blue background required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
- Candidates must be willing to meet on-call requirements similar to staff nurses
- Math test administered onsite upon arrival; remediation available if needed
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and procedures
Notes
- Candidates educated outside the U.S. must provide foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
- Seattle Children’s considers returning candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts as extensions; some documents may carry over
- Candidates must complete respiratory protection training provided by the facility
- Meal waiver agreement available but not required unless waiving second meal period
