Registered Nurse - MICU (Ohio, Dayton)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Unit: 40-bed, fast-paced, high acuity Medical ICU (MICU)

Job Overview

• Targeted patient ratios: 1:2-3
• Bedside procedures include Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy, and G-Tube placement
• Frequent care of patients immediately post-operation
• Use of specialized equipment: ICP monitoring, arterial lines, Flotrac monitoring, BIS, and train of four
• Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the High-Risk Respiratory Unit (HRRU) unless PAPR is needed/offered
• Navy blue scrubs required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio (must be obtained before contract start)
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Floating and Work Location

• Traveler will be the first to float at employer’s discretion
• Floating assignments may include main campus and nearby satellite campuses within 10-15 miles
• Floating may include support on high-risk respiratory/COVID units or other specialty clusters

Competency and Certification Requirements

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only; RQI acceptable as placeholder)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year or completed within 72 hours of contract signing
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 2 years
• NIH Stroke Certification required within 12 months prior to start (with some unit exceptions)
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
• Respiratory protection medical questionnaire and clearance required prior to orientation
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date; lab work must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing

Documentation and Background Checks

• Government-issued photo ID required
• E-Verify and I-9 compliance required prior to start
• 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and county checks, and sex offender registry
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Fingerprinting not required for this unit
• Education verification required for all non-RN candidates (not applicable here)
• Two professional references within 2 years required (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge nurse) or employment verification if references unavailable
• Current resume/application required
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date

Additional Notes

• Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census
• Employer may cancel agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
• Travelers are not eligible for employer employee incentives
• Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
• RTO approval is at manager’s discretion

This position offers a challenging ICU environment with high acuity patients and requires strong critical care skills, flexibility for floating, and adherence to strict competency and documentation standards.
