Medical Lab Technician - Travel/Contract

Location: Brewton, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM (12-hour shifts)
• Initial Training: Must be willing to train on 4x10 day shifts (8 AM start) during the first week
• Duties include performing and evaluating various technical laboratory procedures using automated, semi-automated, and manual methods across multiple lab sections (chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, blood bank)
• May occasionally collect blood samples from patients of all ages
• Other duties as assigned by Laboratory Director or Assistant Director

Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
• Certification by AMT or ASCP
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, or Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or a closely related field such as Biology or Chemistry
• Experience in microbiology
• Experience in blood bank

Required Credentials & Compliance

• Background check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Proof of E-Verify or attestation required
• Transcript or diploma required for verification of education
• Primary source verification of state license required
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within one year of start
• Physical exam: Physician statement within last 12 months (not required annually)
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination accepted
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination or booster accepted if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox; declination or booster accepted if negative/equivocal
• COVID-19 vaccine or medical/religious exemption required (note: proof no longer required by client, but vaccination status reported for state)
• Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining

References & Evaluations

• 2 professional references required within 2 years of start (3 preferred)
• Performance evaluations required if worked with the agency over 1 year
• Internal evaluations required if worked over 2 years

Additional Notes

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and TNCC certifications are not required for this laboratory position
• Medication/pharmacology competency exams and other competency exams required as applicable
• Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Lab Technicians with strong microbiology and blood bank skills seeking a travel contract opportunity with weekend day shifts and initial training on a 4x10 schedule.
