Registered Nurse – PCU Float (Night Shift) – Columbus, Ohio
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Float Pool Role: May be required to float to another affiliated hospital (5–6 minute walk) or within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
- Estimated Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- Subcontractors must complete a background acknowledgement form prior to start
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray if positive, within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31); mask required if declining
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond (3M 1860/1870+, Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable)
Documentation and Other Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership; charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required (including education for nursing candidates)
- Skills checklist required
- Annual review and signature of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Completion of Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
Parking
- Various parking permit options available (costs and details subject to change; no commute required)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with night shifts, telemetry monitoring, and floating between units and nearby hospitals. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and certifications is mandatory.
