Dialysis Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job
Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide dialysis care to patients of all ages, from acute to chronically ill, adhering to regulatory standards.
- Manage clinical status during hemodialysis, including venous access, blood component infusion, and dialysis machine operation.
- Educate patients, families, and the public; supervise dialysis technicians.
- Perform surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and water quality.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and data collection for the dialysis unit.
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- On-call 1-2 times per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 1 year of dialysis experience, including dialysis experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients, including pediatric acute care experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and assess patient data to establish condition and care priorities.
- Monitor patient condition and stability, adjusting care plans as needed.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Assign and supervise tasks to other caregivers within their scope of practice.
- Implement evidence-based nursing care consistent with policies and ethical standards.
- Collaborate with patients/families on education and document teaching in electronic records.
- Communicate patient status, progress, and discharge plans to the healthcare team with accurate documentation.
- Support team knowledge transfer to ensure safe and compassionate care.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in dialysis or related acute care settings.
- Pediatric experience is mandatory.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day.
- Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification.
- National sex offender search and other federal/state checks required within 30 days prior to start.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel test including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start.
- Two professional references from managers or supervisors within the last 24 months required.
- Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position.
Certifications and Training
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA provider only (preferred or may be required).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA provider only.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA/AAP only.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start, including:
- Information Privacy and Security Essentials
- Integrity Foundations
- Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
- Additional modules related to nursing and dialysis care as applicable
Health and Safety Requirements
- Fit mask testing within one year prior to start (N95 or equivalent).
- Immunizations or signed declinations required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline: 12/01/2025)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start, plus TB questionnaire.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date.
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Facility requires completion of a job description acknowledgment prior to start.
- Medication override test and other orientation materials will be provided for review.
- Respirator clearance and fit testing may be completed onsite if necessary.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized dialysis nursing role with a diverse patient population in an acute hospital setting. The role requires strong clinical skills, pediatric experience, and the ability to manage complex dialysis procedures and patient education.
