Registered Nurse (Chemo) - Travel/Contract

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Facility type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Will float to other MedSurg units as needed
  • Charting system: EPIC (experience required)
  • Scrubs color: Royal blue

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Connecticut (or Compact RN license with CT application within 72 hours if not currently held)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC required for Oncology unit)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (check unit requirements)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Chemo)
  • Minimum years of experience: 3 years in specialty

Required Training & Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (must score 80% or higher; required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for RNs in Telemetry, MedSurg/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, Cath Lab, Labor and Delivery; not required for NICU, Psych/Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Ambulatory units)
  • EPIC testing or training (required for ER RNs with EPIC experience; onsite training provided if testing not passed or not completed)

Required Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation and official transcript if internationally educated
  • Verification of highest level of education
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • References per standard (for RRT, one reference must be from a supervisor)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units

Required Health Documents & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred; exemptions require approval)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination acceptable)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/01 - 03/31)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred

  • Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)

Additional Information

  • Candidate must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Must be willing to work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Current Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
