Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Dededo, Guam
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Primarily one shift (day or night), no shift preference allowed
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, flexibility required
  • Holidays: Working on holidays is mandatory (dates determined by unit needs)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Limited to no more than 3 consecutive days and max 7 days total during the contract
  • Locals residing in Guam are not eligible for this position
  • Flights are not reimbursed; candidates must plan and include airfare in their pay package
  • Travelers must remain scheduled through the entire contract before booking return flights
  • Overtime is at management discretion and not guaranteed
  • Travelers should be prepared to pick up additional shifts as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in Emergency Department
  • Must have a current RN license valid in Guam or a Compact RN license at time of application (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Current US passport required (Canadian passports not accepted)
  • Certifications (must have digital provider cards, no screenshots or printed copies):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – full completion required before start
    • Conscious Sedation (required for ER)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
    • Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Pediatrics 2.0 training (required prior to start)
  • Must complete facility-specific nursing modules including:
    • Pressure Injury Training
    • Alaris IV Pumps
    • Pyxis CareFusion
    • FEMA modules (completed onsite)
  • Pass onsite drug calculations and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) exams during orientation (pen and paper format, 80% passing score, two attempts allowed)
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year (facility does not require but Aya recommends)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, must use approved masks or be fit tested onsite
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if past positive, negative chest x-ray and annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination with medical exemption)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Sept 1 - June 30) or approved medical exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver form
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)

Background and Documentation

  • 7-year background check including criminal and sex offender searches, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be done annually
  • Government-issued photo ID and emergency contact form required prior to start
  • Verification of last 10 years of work history required (attestations accepted if verification unavailable)
  • Two professional references required within 3 years for travel/per diem acute care roles

  • Parking: Free with registration and decal from HR

  • Candidates should plan to arrive at least one day before start due to long flight times and time zone differences
