Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Unit: 41 beds, Medical-Surgical population including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
• Patient Ratio: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:6-7
• Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Charting System: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class mandatory)
• Unit Strengths: Experienced leadership, CNA support
• Dress Code: Scrubs only, no competing health system or agency logos
• Additional Notes: Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)
• Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination

Required Qualifications

• License: Current active compact Registered Nurse license
• Certifications: AHA BLS and NIHSS required at time of application
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
  • Trauma Level II experience
• Skills:

  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with remote telemetry, chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes, straight catheter/Foley catheters, ostomies, Heparin drips, blood/blood product administration, tracheostomy care, PCA management
  • Resilient, adaptable, and socially engaged

Additional Information

• Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 7/27
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
• Must comply with a 40-mile radius rule (no local candidates within 40 miles)
