Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Newburgh, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (except during holidays when unit is closed)
• Unit: Cardiac Renal Unit, 34 beds
• Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6-7
  • Charge Nurse takes a patient assignment
• Patient Population: Post cardiac procedures (heart cath, ablation, pacemaker), A-fib RVR, ESRD, CHF, sepsis, tracheostomies, nephrostomy tubes/CBI/renal biopsy, behavioral health/detox
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Additional Notes:

  • Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
  • 3 call-ins can result in termination
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Current active compact RN license
• Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac/telemetry nursing experience
  • At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
  • Experience in trauma level II setting
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class will be required)
• Skills:

  • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
  • Recovery care for heart caths (femoral/TR bands)
  • PIV insertion
  • Chest tube and indwelling drain management
  • Drip management (cardiac meds like Cardizem, amiodarone; other meds like heparin, lasix, protonix)
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Detox/CIWA protocol experience
  • Central line care
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

• Orientation: Bi-weekly orientation starting 7/27
