Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday

Job Description

• Provide nursing care for cardiovascular stepdown patients including admissions and recovery from cardiac surgery, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and PACU procedures.
• Float to other cardiac, stepdown, or telemetry units as needed, primarily on nights (at least once a week), with occasional day shifts.
• Patient population includes pre/post Cath Lab and EP Lab procedures, PACU recovery, TAVR/LAAO recoveries, antiarrhythmics, and cardiac observation patients.
• Unit size: 31 beds.
• Patient ratios: 3:1 on day shift, 4-5:1 on night shift.
• May be required to precept students and new hires.
• Must adhere to a 40-mile radius rule; local candidates are not accepted.
• No acceptance of 48-hour or blocked schedule requests.
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination.
• Scrub code: Red scrub top and black scrub bottoms; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.

Required Qualifications

• Indiana RN license.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in cardiovascular stepdown or related specialty.
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (no new travelers).
• Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Experience with EPIC charting system required; CUPID experience highly preferred.
• Required clinical skills:

  • Start IVs and peripheral IV insertion.
  • Radial artery sheath removal and TR band management.
  • Arterial line management.
  • Manage and titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Cardene).
  • Initiate and titrate Heparin and oral cardiac medications (e.g., Betapace/Sotalol, Beta-blockers, Digoxin).
  • Perform and interpret Telemetry and 12-lead EKGs (travelers must pass telemetry tests).
  • Cardioversions.
  • Monitor trending troponins.
  • Pre/post heart catheterization care including vital signs, heart rate and rhythm, neuro status, ambulation, and site monitoring.

Additional Information

• Orientation starts bi-weekly in June with weekly start options.
• No on-call or call-back requirements.
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
• GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week.
• Floating between campuses is rare mid-shift.

This position is ideal for experienced cardiovascular stepdown nurses comfortable with complex cardiac care and telemetry monitoring, seeking a travel assignment with a consistent night shift schedule.
