Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Newburgh, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (except during holidays when unit is closed)

Job Description

• Work on a 32-bed Medical-Surgical unit with patient population including chest pain, abdominal pain, flank pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, and geri-psych placement patients.
• Float within skillset primarily between two nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles apart) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within the same campus is common.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
• No on-call or call-back requirements.
• May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching hospital environment.
• Scrub color: Navy blue; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.
• Attendance is critical: 3 call-ins can result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience in a trauma Level II setting.
• Recent experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Unit Information

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7.
• Excellent support from LPNs and CNAs; CNAs rarely take patients on day shift but assist on night shift.
• Team-oriented environment requiring resilience and adaptability to change.

Additional Notes

• Local candidates within a 40-mile radius are not eligible.
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
• Orientation includes bi-weekly sessions; GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week.
