Neurology Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel assignment in Newburgh, Indiana
• Primary location: Gateway
• 13-week contract
• Clinical interview required
• No local candidates within 40 miles

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week; may accept 48-hour contracts upon request
• No blocked schedule requests
• Weekend requirement: three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday

Float Scope

• First to float within skillset
• May float to Deaconess Midtown campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
• Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible
• Cross-campus float notice: 2 hours

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Neurology (2 years of experience)
• Neurology experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Trauma experience
• Experience with Epic
• Ability to initiate and titrate heparin infusions
• Indwelling drain management

Unit Details

• Neuro Surgical MS unit
• 37 beds
• Patient ratio: Days 1:5-6; nights 1:5-7
• CN takes partial patient assignment

Patient Population

• Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients, including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op cranis, cerebral angiogram
• General medical and psych

Skills / Clinical Expectations

• NIHSS
• Dysphagia screen
• Strong neuro assessments
• Basic tele interpretation
• Strict I’s & O’s
• Straight cath and Foley care
• Heparin drip initiation and titration
• Blood and blood product administration
• Venipuncture and blood cultures
• NG tubes
• Indwelling drain management
• Stable drips such as Protonix and Lasix

Additional Notes

• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No competing health systems or agency logos
• 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required
