Job Summary
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
- Deliver care based on established nursing standards, hospital policies, and multidisciplinary practices.
- Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
- Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNs on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.
- Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and significant others.
- Develop comprehensive care plans including physical, teaching, discharge planning, and psychosocial/spiritual needs.
- Oversee all aspects of patient care and ensure nursing interventions align with medical regimens.
- Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments.
- Coordinate care priorities with the multidisciplinary team and ensure timely follow-up.
- Integrate age-specific care needs, particularly pediatrics, into care plans.
- Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care.
- Communicate effectively, manage stressful situations, and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships.
- Participate in orientation of nursing staff and assume charge responsibilities as delegated.
- Ensure appropriate patient coverage and assist on other units as needed.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
- Engage in meetings, committees, educational programs, research, and pilot projects.
- Commit to continuing professional growth and education, including pursuing higher degrees and certifications.
- Participate in professional and community organizations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Pediatric nursing experience (acute care or long-term care).
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare/billing systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Education & Licensure
- Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), valid Nursing License in New York.
