Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Watonga, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide comprehensive nursing care including:
- Executing licensed independent provider’s orders
- Dispensing and administering medications
- Assisting providers in examinations and treatment of patients
- Applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of patients
- Attending sick calls with physicians and preparing patients for examination
- Operating medication distribution and documentation according to policies
- Assessing new and existing patients with illnesses or injuries and referring as needed
- Performing emergency procedures and notifying providers for treatment orders
- Coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel
- Monitoring inpatient hospitalizations and facilitating early releases when appropriate
- Supervising licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
- Maintaining confidentiality and security of medical records
- Auditing pharmacy use and complying with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances
- Observing and recording patient behavior
- Inspecting medical units for contraband and safely managing supplies and equipment
- Providing health counseling and education individually or in groups
- Preparing and maintaining medical records, reports, and logs
- Reviewing and responding to legal matters related to medical services
- Ensuring physical safety requirements for a safe working environment
- Assisting with accreditation processes by providing efficient and appropriate medical services
- Preparing safety and accident reports and responding to serious incidents and emergencies
- Escorting or coordinating patient movement for medical treatment
- Conducting searches for contraband and maintaining security in confined areas
- Taking action to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations
- Performing rescue functions including basic emergency medical aid and evacuation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of correctional nursing experience within the last year
Additional Information
- Work may include rotating shifts and physically checking security of doors, windows, and other areas
- Must maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
- Must use sound independent judgment while following established policies and procedures
