Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Alamogordo, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide independent nursing care in an Emergency Department setting, managing a wide range of patient types including stroke, STEMI, Level I trauma, post-surgical complications, pregnancy complications, pediatrics, behavioral health, and other emergency cases. Deliver routine and complex care while demonstrating clinical judgment and leadership in patient management and delegation.


Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care following the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Manage complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Meet professional competency standards and participate in ongoing competency validation.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 trauma care within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level 1 or Level 2 trauma patients.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of New Nurses Orientation within first 30 days if newly hired.
  • Precepted onboarding with competency validation specific to Emergency Department.
  • Annual competency verification completion.

Work Schedule

  • Multiple shifts available (in-time varies between 3 PM and 7 PM)
  • Full-time position

  • Candidates must have recent and relevant ED trauma experience.
