Job Overview

  • Level of Care: PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg (mixed unit)
  • Patient Population: Adults
  • Number of Beds: 27-28
  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Shift Times:
    • 7a-7p
    • 7a-3p
    • 3p-7p
    • 7p-11p
    • 11p-7a
    • 7p-7a
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
  • Self-scheduling: Yes
  • Nursing Assistant Support: Yes
  • Charge Nurse: Yes
  • Additional Unit Support Staff: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician
  • Scrubs: Navy Blue

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Patient Care & Specialty

  • Patient Types: Oncology PCU and Trauma PCU
  • Common Diagnoses: Oncology
  • Float: Yes, to med/surg and PCU units at the same level of care
  • Patient Experience Focus: Hourly rounding
  • Qualities Desired: Genuine care for patients, positive attitude, teamwork, respect for cultural diversity and beliefs

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Specialty: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS
    • BLS (AHA)
    • NIHSS
    • ONS/ONCC (Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation)
    • Chemotherapy Certification (Chemo Cert) required
  • Other Competencies:
    • Ventilator care
    • Hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000)
    • ICP monitoring (training provided in real time)

Clinical Skills & Equipment

  • RN Ratios:
    • Days: 1:4 (PCU), 1:5 (Med/Surg)
    • Nights: 1:5-6 patients
  • Common Drips/Medications:
    • Chemotherapy
    • Heparin
    • Cardizem
    • Protonix
  • Titration: RNs required to titrate drips such as insulin (occasionally) and Cardizem
  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Specialty Equipment: Lyko lifts (even rooms), other lift equipment available

Orientation & Testing

  • Orientation Length: 2 days
  • Testing: Pass/fail open book exam on skills during orientation; must score 90% or higher to continue

Additional Requirements & Policies

  • Radius Rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities
  • Driver’s License: Required at submission to verify distance
  • Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
