ER Registered Nurse Opportunity - Yuma, Arizona
Assignment Details
- Location: Yuma, Arizona
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Dates: Not flexible
- Shift Times: Varied start times including 7 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, and 3 PM
- Scheduling: Modified self-scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 shifts out of 5 holidays (including eves)
- Orientation:
- One New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- One day clinical/EPIC training
- One day on the floor
Experience & Certifications Required
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience within the past 3 years
- Experience must be from Level I or II trauma centers (Level III or Critical Access Hospital experience not accepted)
- Active certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
- Recent proficiency and use of Epic EMR required
Unit & Patient Care Information
- Trauma Level: Level 3 trauma center (ER operates like Level 1)
- Beds: 52 total with 4 trauma bays
- Average ER patient volume: Approximately 200 patients per day
- Patient Types: All emergency cases including STEMI and stroke receiving (stroke interventions are transferred out)
- Ratios: 1:5 for medical patients, 1:6 for fast track
- Fast Track: 6 beds available
- Triage: Two quick-look areas using Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Holding Area: Intermixed with ER beds
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: None
- Security: In-house 24/7, located near ER lobby
Team & Support Staff
- Physicians & Mid-level Providers: Varied shifts including pediatric board-certified providers
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available for assistance
- ED Techs: Experienced (2+ years) performing EKGs, vitals, blood draws, splints
- Patient Care Assistants (PCA): Less than 2 years experience, similar duties as ED techs
- Respiratory Therapists (RT): 24/7 coverage; handle ABGs, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, CPAP
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Present, but RNs must read their own telemetry
- Phlebotomy: Labs drawn by ED techs or RNs (no dedicated phlebotomists)
Equipment & Facilities
- Ventilators: Glidescope, Hamilton, and Phillips models
- Imaging: Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER with transport team; RNs accompany critical patients
- Telemetry: RN responsible for reading own telemetry; monitor tech support available
Additional Information
- Floating: Shared schedule with nearby Foothills freestanding ER (15-minute drive); infrequent last-minute floating
- Return to Office (RTO): No more than 5 days allowed
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
- RN Responsibilities: Must read own telemetry and manage patient care independently
